Fellows Program

Mr. Robert Edison
UCLA

After graduating from the University of Kentucky, Mr. Eidson spent 3 years in the U.S. Army, including 13 months in northern Iraq. After leaving active duty, he worked as a distributions manager for a California magazine, Destination Wine Country. He also worked part time for Greenopia, a green consumer guide to living in Los Angeles, San Francisco, & New York.

After a summer internship with a hedge fund, Mr. Eidson began graduate studies at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. At the same time, he started a quarterly magazine called The Bourbon Review. His interests include green consumer habits, renewable energy, and international security. Upon graduating from the Anderson School, he plans to pursue contract-based employment with a private security firm and continue to grow his small business, The Bourbon Review.

Most recently, Mr. Eidson finished a Fellowship for UCLA Anderson’s Entrepreneurship Bootcamp For Veterans.

Mr. Alvarif Harjati
East-West Center Leadership Program

Alvarif Harjati holds a MS in Industrial and Systems Engineering and BS in Chemical and Industrial Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology. As a graduate research assistant, he worked on environmentally conscious design packaging systems for internationally sourced auto parts and published the findings in the Journal of Cleaner Production. Upon completion of his graduate work, he joined Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan as a supply chain analyst, working on logistics and supply chain activities for North America and Asia Pacific operations. Most recently, Mr. Harjati helps to manage production planning and supply chain strategies for Holcim (US). Outside of work, he is launching his family’s coffee products with the proceeds being donated to Pachamamas Children project in Cusco, Peru.

Mr. Josh Heard
Georgia Institute of Technology

Josh Heard is a graduate of the University of Georgia and current Master's student at the Georgia Institute of Technology studying international affairs with a focus in security. Josh is also a legislative liaison serving Governor Perdue of Georgia. He is a 23 year old native of Georgia who has an active interest in issues of international and homeland security, with a focus in container security and nuclear non-proliferation.

Mr. Seongtaek Im
East-West Center Leadership Program

Mr. Seongtaek Im was an Army Officer and Professor of Computer Information System at the Korean Military Academy in Korea. His research focused on artificial intelligence and the military’s automated computing system. He was the Director of the Policy Campaign Committee for a political party in Korea. Because of his expertise in the military and international trade, Mr. Im was chosen to direct the campaign and strategic report for the 17th Korean presidential election. Mr. Im received a MS in Information System and BS in Business Administration.

Mr. Adam Jacobs
Indiana University – Bloomington

Mr. Jacobs is a 23 year old college student and Army National Guard soldier from Bloomington, Indiana. He served overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005-2006. During the summer of 2008 he completed an internship with the American Red Cross. Mr. Jacobs is a junior majoring in Business Legal Studies (with minors in Economics and Music) through the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.

Natalia K. Lagmay
University of Hawaii

When Ms. Lagmay moved to Hawaii from Russia five years ago, it was both exciting and challenging to learn about business, economics, and finance in a western democratic culture. She did her undergraduate degree in Water Transport Economics & Management from Novosibirsk State Academy of Water Transport Engineers, Russia.

Ms. Lagmay is enrolled in the MBA degree program in the Shidler College of Business and has taken several Pacific Asia Management Institute courses.

Ms. Katie Minor
Georgia Institute of Technology

Katie Minor will graduate with her Masters in International Affairs at the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at the Georgia Institute of Technology in December 2008. She is a National Science Foundation Fellow in the Federal Cyber Service Program. Katie participated in the FBI’s Scholastic Honors Internship Program in Summer 2008. Prior to graduate school, Katie worked at Deloitte & Touche for four years as a financial statement auditor specializing in the energy industry.

Mr. Dan Sloat
Indiana University – Bloomington

Dan Sloat is the Student Body Vice President of Indiana University – Bloomington. Along with Campus Governance, his studies in Business Management have proven to be the perfect compliment to his Military Leadership training in Air Force ROTC. He will be commissioned into the U.S. Air Force in May 2009 with the goal of becoming an Air Battle Manager. In the meantime, Mr. Sloat is also an active parishioner and retreat leader in St. Paul’s Youth Ministry.

Mr. Brian Stauffer
Michigan State University

Mr. Brian Stauffer, originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, is currently a junior at Michigan State University. He is an Honors student majoring in supply chain management with a specialization in international business. He has studied abroad twice, is the secretary of his fraternity, and works for the Michigan State Center for International Business Education and Research, for globalEDGE. He enjoys traveling, watching Michigan State football and basketball, and hanging out with friends.

Mr. Martin Thiry
University of Hawaii

After graduating from Harvard University, Mr. Thiry successfully completed the New Orleans Police Academy, graduating first in his class. He was a patrolman and a robbery detective with the NOPD. Martin has lived and worked in Japan, South Korea, and Indonesia. He has been a fellow with the East-West Center and with the Indonesian government's Darmasiswa Program. Mr. Thiry is a PhD student in history at the University of Hawaii.

Mr. Sheng Xiong
Temple University

Mr. Sheng is a PH.D. student in Mathematics at Temple University. His doctoral research focuses on the application of stochastic differential equations to problems associated with catastrophic risk. Prior to his graduate studies at Temple University, Mr. Sheng was an assistant professor of mathematics at Hou Qing Engineering College in China. He has many years experience in both teaching mathematics and mathematical modeling. He enjoys watching football games and playing soccer in his free time.
